Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how I handle information when you visit dhanwanth.com (the “Site”). The Site is my personal portfolio—I built it to share my work and make it easy to get in touch. I keep data collection minimal, I do not sell your information, and I do not use advertising trackers.

If you have questions after reading this, feel free to reach out at im@dhanwanth.com.

Information We Collect

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, certain technical information may be collected automatically:

  • Analytics data (via Umami, described below), such as pages viewed, referring URL, browser type, operating system, device type, and approximate geographic region derived from your IP address.
  • Hosting and delivery logs processed by Cloudflare when serving the Site, which may include your IP address, request timestamps, and similar technical metadata needed to operate a website.

I do not intentionally collect your name, email address, or phone number through the Site itself unless you choose to share that information when contacting me outside the Site (for example, by sending an email).

Browser storage

The Site stores your light or dark theme preference in your browser’s localStorage under the key theme. This is used only to remember your display preference on return visits. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Information we do not collect on the Site

The Site does not:

  • Offer user accounts or logins
  • Include contact forms that submit data to my servers
  • Process payments
  • Run newsletters or marketing email lists
  • Use advertising cookies or third-party ad networks

When you contact me directly

If you email me, call me, or message me on a social platform linked from the Site, you decide what personal information to share. Those communications are handled by your email provider, phone carrier, or the relevant third-party platform—not by this Site’s code. How I handle that information is described under Data Retention and Your Privacy Rights below.

How We Use Information

I use the information described above to:

  • Operate, maintain, and secure the Site
  • Understand aggregate traffic and how visitors use the Site (for example, which pages are viewed)
  • Measure interactions with links and buttons (such as navigation, project, and contact links) through privacy-oriented analytics events
  • Improve performance and fix technical issues

I do not use this information to:

  • Sell or rent personal information
  • Serve targeted advertising on the Site
  • Build advertising profiles about you

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, I process personal data on the following bases:

  • Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Site, and to understand aggregate usage through minimal analytics, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent — where required for non-essential storage or processing (for example, if applicable law treats theme preference storage as requiring consent in your jurisdiction).

You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described in Your Privacy Rights.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Analytics: I use Umami, a privacy-oriented analytics tool configured to operate without cookies for tracking purposes. Umami does not use the Site to place advertising cookies.

Theme preference: The Site uses browser local storage (not cookies) to remember your theme choice, as described above.

Third-party sites: Links on the Site (for example, LinkedIn, GitHub, X, project demos, or my resume) may set their own cookies or use their own tracking when you visit them. I do not control those sites. Please review their privacy policies separately.

Analytics (Umami)

I use self-hosted Umami analytics to understand how the Site is used. Umami is designed to collect aggregated, privacy-friendly usage data without identifying you by name.

Depending on your interaction with the Site, analytics may record:

  • Page views and navigation paths within the Site
  • Referring website (if any)
  • Browser, operating system, and device type
  • Approximate location (country/region level, derived from IP)
  • Custom events tied to interactions (for example, which type of link was clicked—such as a social link, project link, or footer link—without requiring you to enter personal details)
  • Session replays (for a sample of visits only): anonymized recordings of how pages are used, such as scrolling and clicks. Form inputs are masked; text may be partially masked depending on configuration. Replays are retained for up to 30 days

I configure analytics to avoid unnecessary personal data collection. For more information about Umami’s approach, see Umami’s privacy documentation.

Analytics data is processed on infrastructure I use to host the Site and analytics service (see Service Providers).

Service Providers

I rely on trusted service providers to host and deliver the Site. These providers process technical data on my behalf only as needed to provide their services:

  • Cloudflare — content delivery, security, and hosting infrastructure for the Site
  • Hosting and analytics infrastructure — servers and related services used to deploy the Site and run self-hosted analytics (which may include providers such as Vercel and Supabase, depending on deployment configuration)

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. I require that they handle data in line with applicable law and only for legitimate operational purposes.

I do not authorize service providers to sell your personal information.

The Site contains links to external websites and services (for example, social profiles, source code repositories, live project demos, and my resume). Clicking those links takes you away from the Site. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites. I encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing personal information.

Data Retention

I retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy:

  • Analytics data is kept for a limited period consistent with Umami’s configuration and operational needs, after which it is deleted or aggregated.
  • Hosting logs are retained according to Cloudflare’s and my hosting providers’ standard retention practices.
  • Emails or other direct communications you send me are kept only as long as needed to respond, maintain records of our conversation, or comply with legal obligations.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information.

EEA and UK (GDPR)

If GDPR applies to you, you may have the right to:

  • Access personal data I hold about you
  • Rectify inaccurate personal data
  • Erase personal data in certain circumstances
  • Restrict processing in certain circumstances
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Data portability where applicable
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected, used, disclosed, or sold
  • Delete personal information, subject to certain exceptions
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising

I do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined under California law.

I will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

How to exercise your rights

To make a privacy-related request, email me at im@dhanwanth.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and describe what you are asking for. I may need to verify your request before responding. I will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

International Data Transfers

I am based in the United States, and the Site is operated from the U.S. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the U.S. and other countries where my service providers operate.

Where required, I rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers (such as standard contractual clauses or other mechanisms recognized under applicable law).

Security

I take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed through the Site. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 13 years of age, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe I have received information from a child under 13, please contact me and I will take steps to delete it.

Changes to This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When I do, I will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date at the top. Your continued use of the Site after changes become effective means you accept the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law.
